Lederhosen Couture since 1830

When you think of Bavarian customs, you immediately think of Lederhosen as well.

Lederhosen and dirndl dresses were most popular in the 19th century, but they are still popular today for festive occasions. They are worn, for instance, to the "Gäubodenvolksfest" which is a local folk festival in Straubing, where visitors come in flocks and present their traditional costumes. Members of local folklore clubs, whose aim it is to preserve this special Bavarian heritage, demonstrate their most beautiful dirndl dresses and Lederhosen for the opening parade of the fair.

Lederhosen, the most durable piece of clothing in a Bavarian closet

An important advocate of Bavarian traditional clothing is the master furrier Peter Markgraf, who is the sixth generation in his family to run the fashion boutique Markgraf in Straubing. It was founded in 1830 and, ever since, the Markgraf family has dedicated themselves to the Lederhose. Peter Markgraf designs and creates these Bavarian clothes and matching accessories with his impressive craftsmanship, high quality fabrics and leather. He will even repair damaged traditional costumes all in the spirit of sustainability. And if you do wish for something new, there are great choices of Lederhosen and dirndl dresses at the boutique – festive, casual or classical, all in style and originally Bavarian.
